Mission
Mission: ECC involves students from Austin area colleges and universities in every aspect of the center’s operations to improve the quality of life of East Austin residents.
Vision: To instill values of lifelong service in college aged students and train the next generation of community leaders.
Eastside Community Connection focuses on three areas of service:
Feed
Food Pantry. ECC provides basic needs assistance to the most vulnerable residents of the East Austin community through our food pantry. In 2012, ECC began partnering with local organic farms to offer our clients a wider variety of fresh vegetables. The Health and Wellness Program provides the tools and knowledge necessary to help our clients make sensible food choices and develop long-term healthy eating habits. Clients with diet related health issues, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and cholesterol are taught to more effectively manage their conditions through proper nutrition and lifestyle choices.
Teach
Adult Advancement and Education. ECC’s adult education classes our designed to give our clients an opportunity to create a better life for themselves and their families. In addition to our numerous seminars, computer literacy and English as a Second Language courses, ECC has launched a Job Assistance Program, designed to help unemployed and under-employed Central Texans obtain employment opportunities.
Serve
Eastside Community Connection Philanthropy and Leadership Institute. ECC’s greatest assets are the interns who, through direct service to the community, form the foundation of ECC’s success. These young leaders engage in intensive training and gain hands-on experience in nonprofit administration. ECC’s interns are involved in every aspect of the center’s day-to-day operations including: client management, program development, public relations, accounting, human resources, and governance. More than 2,600 students have contributed over 50,000 hours of service to the community while managing our programs.
